Work on wastewater project in Ghubra, Azaiba areas making rapid progress

MUSCAT -- The wastewater project in Al Ghubra and Azaiba is continuing to make progress with a number of significant developments.

Samir Humaid, project manager, Bausher said the wastewater project in Al Ghubra and Azaiba undertaken by Synohydro, was part of the Bausher wastewater project which covers all of the areas of the wilayat of Bausher.

The project entails constructing a sewage treatment plant in Al Ansab, as also constructing wastewater and treated effluent networks, pumping stations, main collection line and other wastewater related utilities.

On the progress being made in Al Ghubra and Azaiba, Humaid said 4,187m of collection line located west and east of Wadi Al Azaiba was nearing completion. Work is also continuing on the main pumping station, some 83 per cent of which have been completed so far.

The contractor has completed 92 per cent of the main lifting line, and 65km of the wastewater and treated effluent networks. And 1,500 house connections have been installed and work is progressing toward completion in the whole area of Ghubra and Azaiba.

"The residents who would ultimately benefit from the project are requested not to use the connection until the whole project is completed and the network starts working properly," Humaid added.

The Bausher project manager said that the Al Azaiba and Ghubra project would be completed by 2009 end.

He said the execution of the wastewater projects in residential areas would pose a challenge to any company anywhere in the world due to its impact on the daily life of the residents, but the company appreciates the understanding and cooperation given by the residents.

"We are committed to executing this vital project with minimum disturbance and inconvenience to one and all. We appeal to all parents and residents to ensure that their children refrain from entering the site or play around it.

"We continue to work closely with the residents, wali offices and local community representatives while this work goes on," Humaid said.

He added that the OWSC (Oman Wastewater Services Company)OWSC (Oman Wastewater Services Company)Loading... would continue to update the local community and stakeholders throughout the duration of the project.

Huamid has requested all those affected to report any complaints they may have about any work related to the project at 800 77 111.

"We installed this toll free number to answer any queries and to respond to any remarks and notifications from the general public.

The Safety Department and the Customer Services Department representatives constantly follow up the field work.

"We have been placing advertisements in newspapers daily to explain to the residents when construction works would commence, and we have already put up notices in some areas that contain information about the project. Residents and others may access the company's website: www.owsc.co.om to obtain additional information about the project and its benefits," added Humaid.

Oman Wastewater Services CompanyOman Wastewater Services CompanyLoading... is a government-owned company established in 2002 to build and operate the wastewater sector in the Muscat governorate. The Muscat Wastewater Project is one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the Sultanate and consists of building wastewater networks, pumping stations and sewage treatment plants.

The total cost of project is expected to touch at least RO1 billion.
